CARSON CITY — Congratulations to Yahir Herrera, third grader from Mark Twain Elementary School, and Adria Bass, a kindergartner from Bordewich Bray Elementary School. Both were awarded prizes for their parents’ participation in a survey designed to develop a School Safety Review Study.

The South Carson Street project design is complete. The project team is pleased to announce the completion of the project design after nearly a year of design progression since the initial public kick-off meeting on December 11, 2018. During the design phase, the project team has conducted over 20 public meetings to gather useful feedback on various project features.

A 50-year-old flooding issue in a Carson City neighborhood could finally see a solution with the “North Carson Area Drainage Plan” proposed by Carson City Public Works.

According to Robert Fellows, P.E., Chief Stormwater Engineer for Public Works, an issue involving flooding or “ponding” in a particular Carson City neighborhood has been on the books as an issue since Carson City was still Ormsby County, going back to the 1970s.

The storm appears to be subsiding, snow plows will continue to maintain the Carson City area streets throughout the day. Please drive slow and leave extra time for travel. If traveling please stay back at least 100 feet and avoid passing the plow. Be aware of the plow wing as it discharges heavy amounts of snow.

A winter storm continues to bring a mixture of rain and heavy wet snow to the valley floor Monday morning, making for school and commute delays around the Carson City region.

The first big snow storm of the winter season arrived overnight and into Wednesday morning bringing snow to the valley floor and Sierra, causing travel headaches for many Thanksgiving holiday motorists with any number of accidents, fender benders and spinouts.

Carson City Public Works will be doing water system adjustments this Wednesday, Nov. 20 near the intersection of South Carson Street and Sonoma Street.

Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. While haze from nearby Sierra fires may linger some, we're looking at another pleasant fall day around the capital city heading into Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. The first day of the work week is deadline day to get nominations in for the Carson City Carson City 2019 Mayor's Arts Awards. Events around the capital city include a luncheon with Lt. Sections of the Linear Ditch Trail in Carson City will be closed starting Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, for maintenance and cleaning. The multiuse path will be closed from the east end of the Linear Ditch, east of Fremont Elementary School and continue west to South Roop Street along Governor’s Field. Maintenance is anticipated to take up to several weeks.

Carson City Public Works will do water main flushing on Monday morning, Sept. 23. There is potential for temporary periods of discolored water along Hot Springs Road between Roop Street and Northgate Lane.

Carson City Public Works will be hosting a public meeting regarding stormwater rates on Oct. 2, 2019, 5 to 7 p.m. in the Ormsby Room at the Sheriff’s Office.

Carson City Public Works will be conducting water main flushing and testing Tuesday, Sept. 3. There is potential for temporary periods of discolored water in the Stewart Facility and along Snyder Avenue.

Notice is Hereby given that the City of Carson City will conduct a public hearing on September 12, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at the Community Development Conference Room A, 108 E. Proctor Street, Carson City, NV 8970 in order to discuss potential applications for funding under the next fiscal year’s (July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021) State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and to solicit additional citizen input on possible activities to be included in an application.

A suspect who was in a standoff for several hours with law enforcement on Saturday is dead and an infant that was being held hostage is safe, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
