Air Force Commanders Band comes to Carson City

The U.S. Air Force Commanders Band will perform at the Carson City Community Center on Thursday, May 12. Presented by Jazz Carson City the event is dubbed "Getting In The Mood." Also appearing is the Carson High School jazz band. Admission is free but tickets are required. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the performance at 7 p.m. Call (775) 687-7410 for tickets and details.

The Grimm Brother's 'Spectaculation'

The Grimm Brother's "Spectaculation" is a crazy combination of the Brother's Grimm most famous tales in a mash up. The April 7 program begins at 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Organizers Encourage all to bring their children to experience live theater. It will be performed by the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company under the direction of Stephanie Arrigotti at the Carson City Community Center. There will be two matinée performances beginning at 2 p.m. on May 8 and May 15.

"'Oklahoma!" is the Rogers & Hammerstein classic that changed the face of American musical theater. It will be performed by the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company under the direction of Stephanie Arrigotti at the Carson City Community Center. Show times for the Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. on May 6-7 and May 13-14. There will be two matinée performances beginning at 2 p.m. on May 8 and May 15.

Dances and Romances concert at Carson City Community Center

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present "Dances and Romances: A Concert" on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The concert features guest harpist Marina Roznitovsky in performances of Camille Saint-Saens' "Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra" and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "Concertino for Harp." The concert also includes A. Paul Johnson's Symphony No. 1 ("The Romantic") and Elena Roussanova Lucas' "Tatarian Dances."

The show features every famous song from the 80's from Madonna to Michael Jackson. Plenty of mullet hair cuts and falshdance styles. Carson City leaders to consider attorney for construction firm's cost override demands

The Carson City Board of Supervisors this week will consider whether to hire a special deputy district attorney to represent the public works department after a construction firm contracted to do $1.9 million in work has claimed overriding costs of $1.7 million.

A settlement agreement with the U.S Department of Justice over the handling of its English Language Learner program will be discussed Tuesday when the Carson City School District board meets.

Carson City Symphony presents 'French Passion' concert

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present a concert, "French Passion," on Sunday, Feb. 27 at the Carson City Community Center.
The concert features guest violinist Andrew Sords in a performance of Eduoard Lalo's "Symphonie espagnole." This all-French program, suitable for people of all ages, also includes Georges Bizet's "L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1" and Gabriel Faure's "Dolly Suite."
Pre-concert entertainment begins at 3 p.m. in the lobby and a Meet-the-Soloist preview begins at 3:15 p.m. in the Sierra Room.

Supervisors to consider Carson City Center Project next week

Carson City leaders will learn next week whether the proposed Carson City Center, also known as the Nugget Project, is financially viable and may vote on whether to move forward with development agreements.

Thursday's meeting of the Board of Supervisors is a culmination of many months of studies, public meetings, workshops and a citizen's advisory committee. Supervisors will hear the results and recommendations of the project at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.

Carson City supervisors to review business scorecard, appoint two to Cultural Commission

A monthly and annual update on Carson City's financial scorecard will be presented to the board of supervisors when they meet this week.

The presentation is a monthly business review related to the performance scorecard for the city and includes data relevant to manufacturing and other sectors. Supervisors will meet beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center.

School board to discuss solar project changes, issuance of bonds

A decision last week by the Carson City Board of Supervisors to change plans for a proposed solar panel project at Eagle Valley Middle School will likely top discussion among school board members when they meet Tuesday.

Carson City Board of Supervisors looking to buy new 911 system

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will be considering the purchase of a new 911 telephone system at their next scheduled meeting on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center.

Also on the agenda will be appointing a replacement for retiring Justice of the Peace Robey Willis, and filling an empty spot on the planning commission.

Carson City redevelopment committee to review canceling incentive program

Plans to phase out the use of sales tax reimbursement incentive agreements in Carson City will go before the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee on Monday.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.

The Redevelopment Authority is considering phasing out the sales tax incentive program and wants the input of the citizens committee.

TOCCATA performances include Dec. 21 Carson City concert

The Reno-Tahoe-Truckee community has six opportunities this December to enjoy TOCCATA’s wonderful tradition of producing selections from "Handel's Messiah" in a Holiday Concert, including a performance in Carson City on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The Carson City performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The Carson City concert features the 60-voice Carson High School Concert Choir, alumni and Carson soloists, and will be a benefit for the high school choir’s future tour presentations.

Sierra Nevada Ballet presents 'Peanutcracker — The Story in a Nut Shell'

The Sierra Nevada Balletwill present the popular “Peanutcracker — The Story in Nut Shell” throughout the Carson City and Reno region this December.

Based on the Peter Tchaikovsky’s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” "Peanutcracker" is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet. Bena wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.
  

Live tonight: Carson Nugget Development Advisory Committee, 6:30p.m.

The Carson Nugget Development Advisory Committee will meet tonight at 6:30 in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center. The committee will be discussing the feasibility report for the Carson City City Center/Nugget Project, and will possibly vote to recommend the report to the Board of Supervisors.

The show goes on for 'White Christmas' this weekend at Carson City Community Center

Last week I wrote that I was the only spectator at the Friday night opening of the Western Musical Comedy production of "White Christmas."

Of course, that was because the show didn't open until Saturday. But I stayed through the first act and reported that all was fine, music stirring, cast excellent and Stephanie Arrigotti's direction made everything move like clock work.
