Carson City's 'Feast of Chocolate' celebrates 20th year, hosted by AAUW Capital Branch
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 01/10/2020 - 3:00pmThe public is invited to attend the 20th Annual Feast of Chocolate on Saturday, February 8, 2020. This event is presented by the American Association of University Women, Capital (NV) Branch in Carson City.
The proceeds of this event provide scholarships to local women graduates or to women resuming their education at Western Nevada College as well as to the AAUW Education Opportunities Fund.
Famed country rock band at Silver City, early Carson City history, live comedy and more this weekend

Events include the Nevada Artists Association New Year’s Show, and there’s a historical Curry family presentation at the Nevada State Museum. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. Combined with live music at Bella Vita Bistro, there’s plenty to do and see around the state capitol. Read on for more.

Across the country on January 9 each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. Thank you law enforcement. In other happenings, events are lined up throughout the day including art showings, an open invitation to a meeting of the Carson City Natives and Newcomers Club, A Prison Hill open space planning open house hosted by Parks and Rec, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, "School of Rock, the Senior Years" at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Senator Square: Fellowship of Christian Athletes thanks Carson City community for support
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 01/05/2020 - 8:58amNot only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.
Lyon County Detectives, Tri-County Gang Unit and ATF arrest pair in connection with firearm burglary
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 01/03/2020 - 4:04pmOn January 2nd, Detectives from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, along with the Tri-County Gang Unit and the ATF, served a search warrant on a residence in Silver Springs. This warrant was in relation to an ongoing burglary investigation where several firearms were stolen from a Federal Firearms License holder in the Silver Springs area.

Carson Mall to host Bingo night to benefit Pop Warner Cheer Squad

Carson City detectives seek three for wallet theft, using stolen credit cards

On Dec. 7 2019, a victim reported her wallet was stolen from her purse while she was shopping at Raley’s grocery store at 3701 South Carson Street in Carson City.
Bently Nevada employees adopt 11 Carson City, Douglas County families for Christmas

Happenings around town include organized morning and evening fitness walks, a "Stuff the Bus Toy Drive" at Capital Ford, a Planning Commission meeting on the proposed Andersen Ranch development and a Posada event at Mark Twain Elementary. Plus, the Carson City School Orchestra Program will hold its annual Holiday Concert at the community center, The Peanuts Gang Trio will hold a free holiday concert at Sassafras, and more.
Seniors in Carson City receive visits from Santa

Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates that more than 1.7 million people spent a total of $638.9 million on gifts, decorations and other merchandise over the five-day period.

Pair arrested at Carson City drive-thru suspected of vehicle burglaries, using stolen credit cards

Over the past few weeks, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has investigated numerous vehicle burglaries throughout the West and North sides of Carson City. Vehicle windows had been broken out and property was stolen. Surveillance videos from homes and businesses showed a male suspect.

Carson City woman arrested after 'taking down' her husband following a dispute over an ex-girlfriend

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to a residence on report of a domestic battery, and dispatch advised the man had possibly been cut with a knife by the woman.
Donors Wanted: Friends to All celebrates 20th year of Santa visits to Carson City seniors

Since 1999 this group has been working to meet the needs of those with limited financial resources who are home bound or in care centers with little or no family nearby. Each year 150 to 200 visits are averaged in the Carson City area.

From Nov. 14, 2019, through Jan. 2, 2020, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.
