Day two of Epic Rides, Carson City Airport's Open House, and more: Events for Saturday, June 29

Good morning Carson City, and happy Saturday! It'll be a bit warmer than yesterday with a high of 86 and a low of 51, and you can expect a bit of a breeze with 13 mph winds.

There's a lot going on today in our beautiful Capital City, with day two of Epic Rides, the Carson City Airport Open House and Wing Cook-off, the farmer's market, a youth expo, and more.

‘For the Kids’ Charity Weekend Silent Auction is now open with Mobile Bidding

The 9th Annual Mike Tice Charity Weekend “For the Kids” begins today in Minden, and the silent auction has opened with a new mobile bidding option through the weekend.

Bike race, airport open house, live reggae and more: Carson City stacked with all-ages weekend events

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area to help the next three days breeze by. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

Nevada Raider Nation - Carson City Chapter is holding a Membership Drive Barbecue from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St. in Carson City.
New members are welcome and current members are encouraged to attend and renew their annual membership. Cost is $20 per person.

Raiders fans are welcome to join Nevada Raider Nation: Carson City Chapter, for a membership drive barbecue Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Espolon Grill y Tequileria in Moundhouse.

Members get together for each game to discuss players, trades, coaching staff and future events. Members are well-versed in history and the dynamics of the game and welcome all die-hard fans to join and attend.

Espolon will offer food and drink specials during this time; drawings will be held each hour for Raiders collectible items. Tickets will be sold 6 for $5.

The following is from the Sheriff's Office: Due to anticipated cold, wet, windy weather conditions Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform the community of the cancellation of the Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party which was scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the National Weather Service a slight chance of showers and potential for wind is predicted. Unfavorable weather conditions may cause significant disruption in the planned outdoor activities. The event cannot be relocated indoors as accommodations are limited. Staff of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank those interested in attending and appreciates the community’s support.

The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.

Carson City committee faces appeal on Special Use Permit granted to an Extended Stay RV Park

UPDATE: This item has been pulled from the March 21 meeting and has been rescheduled to be heard at the April 4 meeting of the Board of Supervisors. You can check out carson.org/agendas for more information.

On Jan. 30, the Carson City Planning Committee decided to approve a Special Use Permit for an extended stay RV park on property zoned Tourist Commercial located at 1400 Old Hot Springs Road. The maximum stay would be 180 days.

However, an appeal has been made to the Board of Supervisor's by a nearby property owner asking to revoke the Special Use Permit.

Board of Supervisors to discuss homeless teens, park funding and more

The next meeting of the Board of Supervisors will be held Thursday, March 21, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the community center located at 851 E. William Street.

Items on the docket include runaway youths, the Ross Gold Park Playground Replacement and ADA Access Project among others.
