Silver State Online High School in Carson City has turned school into a party! Its back to school enrollment drive on August 13th from 11AM-1PM features an atrium barbecue complete with all the fixings, drinks,and desserts. FREE drawings will be held throughout the event. Eligible winners include all families that enroll one or more new students at the event.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of domestic battery second offense and a felony parole and probation violation, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A federal grant aimed at providing permanent places to live in Carson City for veterans who are homeless has been awarded to the Nevada Rural Housing Authority, officials with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development announced Wednesday.

Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team reminds people to 'Can Your Ashes'

Lake Tahoe’s fire departments are reminding people that it’s dangerous to dispose of fireplace, wood stove or barbecue ashes in improper containers and locations. Embers, often concealed in what appears to be cold ashes, can remain hot enough to kindle a fire for several days. It is recommended to wait at least 96 hours and/or 4 days before disposing ashes.
To safely dispose of ashes:

• Put discarded ashes in a heavy metal container, douse with water, and cover with fitted metal lid.

Dr. Ben Carson to Attend the Inaugural Basque Fry in Gardnerville

After an impressive performance at the first Republican Presidential Candidates' Debate, Dr. Carson will join a handful of other candidates at a Basque-style barbecue open to the public at the Corley Ranch in Gardnerville on Aug. 15.

Hot rod enthusiasts gather in Carson City's Mills Park for Silver Dollar Car Classic

Classic cars had their dust brushed off, their paint polished and their engines revved for the Silver Dollar Car Classic in Carson City's Mills Park Saturday. The car show kicked off with a Kiwanis pancake breakfast and was followed by a Show 'n Shine, music, vendors and judging. Judging concludes at 4 p.m. with the show returning Sunday at 8 a.m. with breakfast, poker runs, a barbecue and award ceremony.

Reno’s Third Annual Hemophilia Walk & 5K Planned for September 12

For the third year in a row, Northern Nevadans will be walking or running to raise critical funds and awareness for those affected by inherited bleeding disorders during the 2015 Hemophilia Walk & 5K.

The one mile walk and 5K are scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Virginia Lake Park in Reno. Participants are strongly encouraged to register for the walk at hfnv.org and begin collecting sponsorships.
