Dr. Melissa Jones of Carson City Orthodontics has given over 30 scholarships for free orthodontia work to deserving youth in Carson City since 2012. All she asks in return? For the recipient to perform community service hours as a “smile ambassador.”

Carson City – Data on the number of Americans who have tattoos is hazy, but a 2015 Harris poll found roughly three in ten in the US have at least one tattoo, an increase from roughly two in ten in 2008; and those with one tattoo had a 70 percent likelihood of having two or more.

Hello Carson City! It’s been a bit since I’ve written a column. May has been a whirlwind, which started with a pre-graduation meditation retreat with Mindful USC. I was honored to be one of two alumni present on a silent meditation retreat with 30 people. The remaining 28 were USC professors and employees. After the retreat, I worked in Los Angeles for two days before participating in commencement activities.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours will perform at Carson City’s Brewery Arts Center this Friday, May 18 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. McClain brings his unique blend of music and “humor with heart” to the stage, combining original songs with a hilarious slide show featuring life observations, social commentary and imaginary sponsors from his home town trailer park of Pine View Heights.

A 37 year-old Carson City man was arrested at 4:20 a.m. Saturday morning in the area of Koontz Lane and South Carson Street on possession of a dangerous weapon, a gross misdemeanor, as well as misdemeanor reckless driving and first offense driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Two Carson City women were arrested Friday morning at 10:18 a.m. in the 3000 block of Market Street for misdemeanor petit larceny, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Winterfest 2018 is here, and the theme is “Into the Depps of Winterfest"— as in Johnny Depp — with a week stuffed full of fun activities. Depp says, “I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you’re on it” and this is what Carson High School students intend to do all week long.

A new club, and possibly a lifelong career for senior Lyric Untereiner, is starting at Carson High School.

In the United States, some states have the provision of voter registration as unaffiliated. Other states have that classification as independent. Nearly a dozen states do not have registration by party. (That voter is just required to call for a partisan ballot on primary day.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Insurance reminds consumers that even though the open enrollment period ended Dec. 15, 2017 for the individual health insurance market, some Nevada consumers may still be eligible to purchase health insurance through a special enrollment period.

This Christmas marks six years since I lost a child.

The baby boy didn't die, but I nearly did inside when he left.

I had fostered him from infancy to toddler, a total of 16 months in my care.

Two were arrested Sunday on felony charges of grand larceny after they allegedly attempted to steal more than $700 in merchandise for Kohl’s department store, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. One of the two also faces an additional felony charge after an alleged theft of more than $680 in merchandise at Walmart.
