Man wanted on felony battery charge arrested at Carson City restaurant

A Carson City man wanted on a felony charge of battery causing substantial bodily harm in which the victim suffered severe eye damage was taken into custody Saturday night.
Rico Wiggins, 27, was arrested at around 9:25 p.m. at a restaurant in the 3800 block of South Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. A 28-year-old man, Bryan Gaudette, was also arrested on suspicion of harboring a fugitive, a felony.

Man jailed on suspicion of attempted sexual assault, false imprisonment and pointing gun at officer

A 59-year-old Carson City man was jailed Sunday after allegedly using a gun in an attempted sexual assault and then, later, pointing the weapon at a law officer when he was called to investigate, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Richard John Besal, was arrested at 5:23 p.m. at an apartment in the 2000 block of West College Parkway. He’s being held on $80,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the apartment complex for a report of a possible suicidal subject.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly threatening his mother with a machete and blow torch, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Nathan Scott Chavez was arrested at 9:21 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Edmonds after attempting to flee officers. He is being held on $50,412 bail.

Carson City deputies make several felony related arrests during weekend

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested a pair Friday on felony drug conspiracy and trafficking charges after finding nearly 28 grams of methamphetamine inside a vehicle.

The arrests happened Friday, 8:54 p.m. in the area of Hot Springs and Nye. David Pomjoon Kim, 44, of Carson City and Cory Michael Harmon, 24, of Gardnerville, each face felony charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale, drug trafficking and conspiracy. They were taken to Carson City jail with bail amounts of $40,000 each.

Carson City Judge sentences man in Olive Garden rampage calling actions an 'act of terrorism'

A Carson City judge sentenced a 57-year-old man to prison for terrorizing customers and employees with a loaded weapon at an Olive Garden restaurant here in July 2013.

David Paul Lane was handed the maximum sentence of at least 11 years by Judge James Wilson on one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a concealed weapon following last month's conviction.

On July 21, 2013, Lane entered Olive Garden with a concealed firearm, drew it and pointed it at employees and patrons. In arguing for the maximum sentence, Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger stated:

Carson City deputies make three DUI arrests overnight

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, August 27, 12:49 a.m. in the 600 block of West Spear Street on a misdemeanor charge of DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a reporting witness observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Carson Street without headlights and had struck several curbs in a fast food restaurant drive-thru.

A disturbance call during a party at Fuji Park in Carson City led to the arrests Saturday of five people after a near-riot broke out in which officers were punched and kicked by several suspects, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Officers from Douglas County and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called in as backup to control the melee.

Carson City man held in Sparks motel shooting

Sparks police say a Carson City man is the suspect in a bizarre incident where at least 100 rounds from three different weapons were shot from the second floor of Motel 6 early Thursday morning. No one was injured but several vehicles were damaged.

Luis Alberto Machado, 34, was arrested following the incident at the south side of the Victorian Avenue motel, after police fired a single shot that missed but forced him to surrender. He faces charges of obstructing with a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon on police officer, trafficking controlled substance and felony property damage.

A 39-year-old man was jailed Monday after he allegedly attacked another man with a hammer and baseball bat, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Benjamin Amos Smith is being held on $30,500 bail. He also has a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest out of Reno Township Court.

A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after he allegedly hit a neighbor with a metal rod, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Brett Chapman was arrested at 12:47 p.m. in the 4000 block of Sherman Lane. Bail: $30,000. According to the arrest report, officers responded to the location in reference to a battery.

Carson City woman jailed on three counts child endangerment and neglect

A 35-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday at a motel in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on three gross misdemeanor counts of child neglect and endangerment, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The children, daughters of the woman, were found inside a unkempt motel room along with two men with long criminal histories involving assault, drugs and domestic battery. Inside the motel room apartment were beds without sheets, dirty dishes in a kitchen with rotten food on the counter, several dangerous kitchen items and chemicals within reach of the youngest child, empty beer bottles, hard alcohol within reach of the children, and an open, empty can of beans on the floor.

Nevada Public Health launches websites to combat sexual violence

The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health launched two new Nevada-specific websites Tuesday to help schools protect students from sexual assaults on college campuses.

The websites, www.preventsexualviolenceNV.org and www.stepupstopviolence.org, define sexual assault and consent and offer approaches for individuals, students, and community members to safely intervene when observing a potentially high-risk situation.

Carson City man jailed after police chase ends when car crashes into casino

What began as a battery investigation where a convenience store clerk was hit with a banana, ended with the arrest of a man after he crashed his vehicle into a natural gas line forcing the evacuation of a casino early Sunday morning, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Osvaldo Ruiz was arrested at 1:41 a.m. in the 2100 block of East Long Street after a vehicle and foot chase. He faces felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving willful conduct and eluding with endangerment as well as misdemeanor charges of DUI, obstructing and hit and run.

A Carson City man was sentenced 35 years to life in prison on seven counts of sexually assaulting and abusing a child from 2005 to 2012. James G. Johnson, 49, was sentenced Monday in Carson City District Court for 7 different counts of illegal sexual acts with a minor.

Kings Beach woman arrested on suspicion of third DUI

A 22-year-old Kings Beach woman was arrested Sunday on a felony charge of third offense DUI after Carson City sheriff's deputies who were at the scene of a traffic accident on Highway 50 said she nearly hit them as she passed.

Gloria Estefan Grajeda was arrested in the 4600 block of South Carson Street on suspicion of felony DUI and four misdemeanor charges.

Sheriff's deputies will enforce a lock-down (forced eviction) on 84 year old decorated Korean War Veteran, Rick Ostler early Friday, June 27.

Although Ostler has his rent paid through July 31, the Terrace Apartment management, where Ostler lives on Fifth Street in Carson City, has filed criminal misdemeanor assault charges against Ostler. To counter the allegation, Ostler submitted to and passed a lie detector test, proving, he says, contrived charges by Terrace Apt. personnel.

Suspect in Washoe Valley killings recently released from prison, tied to Arizona murder

Washoe County authorities have identified the man suspected of killing two women in Washoe Valley and say he may have also killed an Arizona man days after he was released from prison.

Anthony Gustave Nelson, 40, who had been released from prison in Arizona on June 2 for sexual assault, is the suspect in the deaths of two women, ages 68 and 70, and who led authorities on a chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area on Friday, June 13 in which he died in a shootout with deputies.

Ex-felon, gang member jailed after witnesses said he brandished gun at park

A 25-year-old ex-felon with ties to gangs was arrested Saturday in Carson City after he was seen Friday in Douglas County with a gun, attempting to provoke a fight among rival gang members and juveniles, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Andrew William Tagay was jailed on numerous felony and misdemeanor charges, including being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. His bail was set at $500,000. He was taken into custody in the 1200 block of Palo Verde by Tri-County Gang Unit deputies who responded to Mills Park.

Carson City man jailed after allegedly threatening motel clerk with hammers

A 39-year-old man faces felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, after he allegedly swung two hammers at a motel clerk Saturday night in Carson City.

Ryan Schroeder of Carson City also faces felony charges of burglary and probation violation. He's being held without bail on the probation violation charge and $40,000 on the other two charges. He was arrested at 10:59 p.m. at Carson and Ninth streets, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy.

Carson City man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on a charge of sexual assault, according a criminal complaint filed by the Carson City District Attorney's Office.

John Allen Teifel was arrested at 6:14 p.m. in the 300 block of East William Street by a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team deputy after a warrant was issued earlier in the day for his arrest.

Two arrested in early Sunday robbery of elderly Carson City man and caretaker

Two men are in custody Wednesday night following Sunday's armed robbery of an elderly man and caretaker inside a Canvasback Drive home, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Detectives with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office arrested Jordan Burkhart, 24, of Wellington and Robert “Robbie” Michael Hernandez, 27, of Carson CIty. Burkhart was arrested at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office without incident on a probation violation, said Furlong. Following the arrest, the search continued for Hernandez and ended in the Reno/Sparks area. Bail was set at $250,000 each.
