Man jailed on suspicion of attempted sexual assault, false imprisonment and pointing gun at officer
A 59-year-old Carson City man was jailed Sunday after allegedly using a gun in an attempted sexual assault and then, later, pointing the weapon at a law officer when he was called to investigate, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Richard John Besal, was arrested at 5:23 p.m. at an apartment in the 2000 block of West College Parkway. He’s being held on $80,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the apartment complex for a report of a possible suicidal subject.
Upon arrival the arresting officer knocked on the door of the apartment and Besal opened the door with a blue revolver in his hand. He raised the pistol muzzle at the officer, who stepped back and demanded the man drop the gun, the report states.
The officer saw the muzzle pointed at his groin area and then lost sight of the firearm as he took for cover. The officer continued to demand Besal drop the gun. When the officer heard the pistol hit the floor, he performed a threshold evaluation of the doorway and observed the man had dropped the firearm. He entered the residence and placed the man in custody. The revolver was loaded and retrieved as evidence.
Officers then went and spoke with the reporting victim, a woman, who stated that she went to get a light from Besal when he pointed the gun at her and asked her if she wanted to die, the arrest report states.
The woman told officers Besal made sexual advances at her, pointing the gun at her and saying she could not leave. She said when Besal put the weapon down when they were on a bed, she grabbed the pistol, unloaded it by dumping the rounds on the floor and then ran out of the residence to a neighbor’s house to call the police.
Besal faces the following felony charges: attempted sexual assault, assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment with a deadly weapon.
