The longer one is explained by the National Weather Service, which says we are in between weather systems. Nine high school poets from across the state will take center stage at the 14th annual Nevada Poetry Out Loud State Finals on Saturday, March 16 in Reno.

CARSON CITY — Reno artist Kate O’Hara need only to open her door and look to the mountains to find inspiration for her creations.

O’Hara’s exhibit, “Botanica Obscura,” can be seen for the next three weeks at the Nevada Arts Council’s Legislative eXhibition Series (LXS) inside the Nevada Legislative Building in Carson City. Throughout the 2019 Legislative session, the works of six Nevada artists is being featured. O’Hara is the second of the six artists and her display will remain in place through March 15.

The hills around the Nevada state capital are alive with the sound of music and nature as the Carson City Symphony performs its 200th concert Sunday at the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater.

Before that, go on a treasure hunt at one of two marketplaces occurring in Carson City today, including the Flying Pig Flea Market and the Seventh Day Adventist Rummage Sale.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council has a new program aimed at bringing together urban and rural arts organizations.

The Nevada Basin to Range Exchange, BRX, is a one-year program that includes in-person gatherings, intercommunity arts-based exchange activities and peer-to-peer mentorship, said Tony Manfredi, executive director of the Nevada Arts Council.

The National Endowment for the Arts announced this week that it has awarded grants totaling $90,000 to seven arts organizations and agencies in Nevada for support in projects planned in fiscal year 2019. The Carson City Arts Initiave took home $10,000 for artist talks, art exhibits and more.
