Carson City Symphony Association’s “Strings in the Summer,” a free program for string-instrument players of all ages, will begin on Monday morning, July 8, 2019. Laura Gibson, Associate Concertmaster of Carson City Symphony, is the instructor and conductor. Registration and tuition are free, donations welcome.

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada was recently awarded $3500 by the Nevada Arts Council to produce Story Time, a literary arts program for young children. The Nevada Arts Council's support is critical in attracting support from the greater community because of the extreme vetting process used by the NAC and the prestige that comes with being part of a select group of leading cultural institutions. The award was part of Nevada's commitment to the arts in the region which included the Discovery Museum, Artown, Brewery Arts Center, and the Nevada Museum of Art.

The Capital City Community Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, will present a free Summer Showcase Band Concert on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s outdoor stage at Minnesota and King streets in Carson City, the same stage used for the Levitt Amp concerts. Some seating is available, and the public is invited to bring chairs.

Instead of hot weather, Mother Nature has decided to cool things down some as we head into the weekend with highs in the low 80s today and the low 70s for the first day of summer. The Old West Trio returns to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park this coming week in an evening concert, while two local musicians are featured at the park’s upcoming Neighbor Fair, an event highlighting Carson Valley’s non-profit organizations.

The Carson City Symphony's 35th annual Pops Party concert will be held this Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the Capital Amphitheater, in the park between the Capitol and Legislature buildings.

The Carson City Symphony, lead by David Bugli, will be joined on the program by singer-songwriter Tom Miller and the Carson City Symphony Chorus, led by interim director Ricky Hutton.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "New Crop 2019", by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, June 7, 5 to 7 p.m. The artists will give a brief talk about their work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from June 7 to Sept. 26, 2019.

The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2019 poster and program cover art contest is Reta Hanks, a member of the Nevada Artists Association, Capital City Arts Initiative and several other artists organizations in Nevada and California.

Heading into Memorial Day, May 27, 2019, we urge all to take time out of your day to honor those who served and died defending our country. Memorial Day is the day we celebrate those men and women who passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. There are events Monday in Carson City at the Stewart Indian School Cemetery and at Lone Mountain Cemetery and in Fernley at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

CARSON CITY — Nevada’s state museums are once again taking part in the national Blue Star Museums program, providing free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families.

The National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families program, now in its 10th year, launched the 2019 program on Saturday, May 18 – Armed Forces Day – and it will stay in effect through the Labor Day Weekend.
