We're looking at a steady flow of showers today, according to the National Weather Service with snow in the upper elevations of the Sierra. There is a Winter Weather Advisory until midnight for the west slope of the Sierra. Today in town we have events that range from a Carson High School team fundraiser to movies to politics to fitness. CARSON CITY — Native American artist Melissa Melero-Moose finds inspiration for her mixed media creations from the landscape and culture of the Northern Paiute of the Great Basin.

“Willows, tules, cattails, and pine nuts are all very important staples to the Paiute people, being sources of food, shelter, and implements made with artistic intention,” she said. “I consider these works to be a perspective of my tribe and culture through the eyes of a Native woman, mother and artist.”

Well the weekend sure went fast as we say goodbye to March. Now we're heading into Monday, April 1, 2019 where pranks, larks and tom foolery are orders of the day. No fooling when it comes to the weather though. We may see a slight chance of showers in the afternoon and evening with more of a chance of rain on Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Welcome Carson City to Sunday, March 31, 2019. The last day of the month will bring sunny skies and a daytime high somewhere in the low 60s. Ideal spring weather before the next system arrives Monday bringing with it warmer temperatures but showers as well. Today there's art gallery showings, two children's theater performances, a bike ride and a tour of the stone Wungnema House at Mills Park.

CARSON CITY — Las Vegas mixed media artist Antonio Gomez knows all too well the devastating effects Alzheimer’s disease can have on a family. He lost his father to it a decade ago and recently learned his mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

On Tuesday, March 26, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a public talk, "The Lilley", by the University of Nevada, Reno, curator Paul Baker Prindle.

The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series and will take place at 6pm at the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Baker Prindle preceding the event at 5:30pm. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

Good morning, Carson City. Today is Thursday, March 21, 2019. If there's something we can always count on the last 10 days of March, besides the NCAA basketball championships, is unsettled weather. We can expect showers this morning with some clearing this afternoon. Speaking of NCAA basketball, the 7th ranked Nevada Wolf Pack Men's basketball team will face 10th ranked Florida Gators today, 3:50 p.m.

Today is Nevada Moves Day where schoolchildren will be walking and riding their bikes to and from school. Motorists may want to be especially careful as there are more kids on the sidewalks and crosswalks than usual.

CARSON CITY — Vanessa Aponte, a senior at Legacy High School in Las Vegas, is the 2019 Nevada State champion of Poetry Out Loud. The statewide competition for high school students started in the fall with more than 3,500 participants and narrowed to nine regional finalists for Saturday’s championships at the studios of KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting in Reno.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents an exhibition, "The Lay of the Land," by artist Fred Howland in the Community Center’s Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition runs now through June 30, 2019. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, March 29, 5-7pm in the Sierra Room, and the artist will give a brief talk about his photography at 5:30 p.m.

Well we're here Carson City. We're heading into March 15, the last Friday of winter 2019. While March 20 may be the first day of Spring, the weekend ahead is about the Irish and their spring. The exception is tonight where the Western Nevada College Chapter of the National Student Nurses' Association will be going Italian style with a fundraising spaghetti feed spread. Read on for more.

Good morning Carson City. Today is Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Many of us woke up to a nice dusting of snow on the grass and around the hillsides. The white stuff won't last very long. While technically not Spring until March 20, a week from today, there's a noticeable warmup ahead, with high temperatures near 60 by Sunday.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Enjoy the sunny skies while you can as a quick-moving weather system will blow in this afternoon into the evening bringing a chance for gusty winds and scattered rain and light snow showers. From Wednesday onward it looks like plenty of sunshine filled days extending into the weekend.

The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford will be joined by several poets and readers on Tuesday, March 12 for an evening of big-band music and poetry on the theme "Hang Ups."

Each poem will be followed by a related big-band tune. The event will be at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. It runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 at the door and free for age 18 and under.

UPDATE: The Subaru, Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be leading an Awareness Workshop at the Carson City Community Center in the Bonanza Room tonight. Leave No Trace teaches outdoor skills and ethics, minimizing our impacts and enjoying the outdoors responsibly. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Go here to register.

Today has earned a happy dance, because there will be an extra hour of daylight with which to enjoy the outdoors. Just remember to set your alarms so you aren't an hour late for work Monday!

Daylight Savings Time is about to begin, harkening the approach of Spring. Winter, though, continues its stubborn hold on the region, so bundle up this weekend in spite the extra hour of daylight. There's a chance of snow showers throughout the weekend with daytime highs only into the low 40s.

And remember to set your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night!
