Art fairs, camel races, train rides and more: events and happenings in the Carson City region for Saturday, Sept. 7

Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! Today we’ll see a high in the mid 80s and a low in the mid to low 40s, which to me sounds like Fall is right around the corner!

We’ve got a ton of great events today and tomorrow, so check them out below:

Memorial run, history walks, camel races, veteran resource fair and more: Carson City region gears up for eventful weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s plenty of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.

The 2019 Silver State Art Festival is the third annual gathering in Carson City of award-winning gourd artists, painters, photographers, wood, glass and metal artists and from all over the Southwest. The festival runs Sept. 13-15 at Fuji Exhibit Hall, Park & Pavilion in Carson City.

Dance at Carson City Senior Center this Friday with Live Music by 'The Grumpy Old Men'

There will be a dance with live music this Friday, Sept. 6 at Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The dance is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. All ages welcome.

Tickets are $10 are person available at the door. Live music provided by The Grumpy Old Men. Enjoy social ballroom dancing and line dancing and have fun "doing your own" style. Participants are encouraged to bring a store-purchased snack to share.

Dangberg Home Ranch Celtic Faire coming to Carson Valley on Saturday, Sept. 14

It was gathering for the books and the sky. The Carson City Library concluded its Summer Learning Challenge on Saturday by throwing a party. The get-together celebrated youth participating in library activities that focused on space and science themes throughout summer.

The Dead Winter Carpenters brought a bluegrass and country flair to the fourth annual Levitt AMP outdoor Music Series on Saturday.

Attendees by the hundreds filled the Change Companies Stage on Minnesota Street at the Brewery Arts Center to soak in another warm summer night with a pair of terrific live performances.

The 16th Annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music and Art Festival kicks off Friday at Bliss Mansion, 608 Elizabeth Street from 4 to 6 p.m., and continues that evening at the Governor’s Mansion, directly across Mountain Street. The free event includes live music, art, food, and tours of the Bliss Mansion.
