RENO — The magnitude 6.5 Monte Cristo Earthquake near Tonopah is still rolling. Two weeks after it woke Nevadans, the Nevada Seismological Lab has tracked a phenomenal 6,500 aftershocks — four at magnitude 5.0 and greater, from the earthquake sequence.

A 38-year-old California man was arrested Saturday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team for suspicion of multiple felony drug trafficking, possession and other offenses after a traffic stop led deputies to large amounts of methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana.

CARSON CITY — Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 39,496 for the week ending April 18, down 19,145 claims, or 32.6 percent compared to last week’s total of 58,641.

On April 17, Carson City District Court rejected the city’s motion to dismiss the case involving Tahoe Hemp LLC.

Tahoe Hemp is suing Carson City for $15 million after the city refused to allow the company to grow hemp on the Buzzy’s Ranch property, despite an agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust.

CARSON CITY — Employment stats in early March, before the COVID-19 shutdown, shows Carson City having gained 400 jobs over March 2019 figures but had decreased significantly since February of this year, according to data released Tuesday by Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Carson City's unemployment also swelled to 6.7 percent, up from 4.1 percent in February, and up from 4.5 percent a year ago.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 58,641 regular initial claims for the week ending April 11, down 20,644 claims, or 26 percent compared to last week’s total of 79,285.
