Carson City Curbside Christmas tree recycling begins Jan. 5
Carson City and Waste Management again offers their annual Christmas tree curbside recycling service this season. As in previous post-holiday years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to drop off locations beginning Jan. 5, 2015.
Trees will be chipped and used as mulch. Last year 31 tons of wood waste was redirected out of the landfill because of the recycling program. The dates for tree collections are:
Curbside collection will be from Jan. 5 2015 through Jan. 9 on your regular trash day. If trees are longer than six feet, Waste Managements asks that you cut them up into sections of three feet.
Residents need to remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases from trees before recycling.
Drop-offs are available at the following locations and will be available from Jan. 5-9 only: Do not drop off before then. The locations are:
— J.C. Penny Parking lot
— North Town Plaza near Bully’s
— Capital Sanitation, 5560 Sheep Drive
— Carson City Corporate yard on Butti Way, located west of Carson City Public Works on Airport Road.
— Carson City landfill (the green waste pile area).
After Jan. 9 residents should take them to the Carson City landfill for recycling. Trees left curbside after Jan. 9 will be disposed of as garbage and will need to be cut into three foot section so they will fit into the Waste Management trucks.
Call the Carson City Environmental Control Authority for more information at 887-2355 extension 7390 or extension 7376.
