Artisan Showcase at Carson City Chamber now open
When the Carson City Chamber purchased the share of the building previously occupied by the visitors bureau, they found themselves with extra space that once housed the visitor center and gift shop operated by the bureau.
What to do with that extra space was the question. Since that vacant space was always operated as a gift shop, the Chamber decided to operate an artisan shop to showcase local talented artists and provide them with yet another outlet to sell their unique art.
Unofficially unveiled at their holiday party on Dec. 16, the Chamber store is now open to the public between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and on special holidays.
The Artisan Showcase @ Chamber is currently featuring the works of Art Glass Designs of Carson City; Pinyon Pottery of Carson City; Sagebrush Soap Factory of Gardnerville; Black Rock Mud Company of the Black Rock Desert and Custom Metal Graphic s of South Washoe County. More artists will be added within the next few months. You won’t find a thing here made in China.
Monthly, a tea will be held at the Chamber to introduce the various artists to the community. Attendees will be able to meet the artist and learn how the artist chose their medium and how they market their product.
The Artisan Showcase @ Chamber features eclectic and affordable art sure to be a hit for any recipient no matter the occasion:
Art Glass Design is one-of-a-kind art created by Jerrill Ristine of Carson City whose passion for creating glass art is evident in every piece. She can create custom pieces. She has recently created earrings in the “colors of Nevada” – silver and blue, each one different and unique.
The Black Rock Mud Company features beauty products cultivated from the boiling springs found in the Black Rock desert. The owners respect Mother Nature and understand their products “are a sacred gift from the living earth.” They even package their mud in recyclable containers and have won a national award for their package design. The mud harvested is 100% natural, full of therapeutic properties and good for the skin. We will be taking a tour of the company in the spring.
Custom Metal Graphics designer Robert St. Clair creates magic for your home, yard or office. Using 11 gauge cold rolled steel to stamp out his designs, Robert can create original one-of-a-kind art that can be polished to a high sheen or left natural. His creations can be displayed outside or hung on walls. Each piece is sure to gain much attention and comment.
Pinyon Pottery is functional, wheel thrown pottery made by Linda Ritter of Carson City. She specializes in functional dishware and states, “each ball of clay is a perfect unspoiled canvas waiting to become something both beautiful and useful in our everyday lives.” All pottery is food safe unless marked otherwise.
Sagebrush Soap Factory is operated by Cynthia Aiazzi who has a passion for making soaps and all-natural skin products. Her soaps are anything but ordinary. Most are works of art and make great gifts. Her Nevada gift basket is perfect for anyone who wants to welcome a newcomer or out-of-state guest to our region or their home.
Regional artists are welcome to contact the Chamber by emailing director@carsoncitychamber.com.
