Carson City Sheriff's Office, SWAT respond to shots fired inside home, suspect in custody
UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office responded and its SWAT was called Tuesday morning to a Morgan Mill residence after a man began shooting inside a home where his 73-year-old grandmother was hiding. The suspect is now in custody.
The female who was hiding is safe and was not injured in the incident, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The male suspect stepped out of the residence with a gun and was subdued with non-lethal bean bags. The male was taken to the hospital for abrasions from the bean bags and a mental health evaluation, said Furlong.
The incident was reported at 8:18 a.m. An adult male, later confirmed to be 39, who was armed with guns, began shooting inside the residence.
The 73-year-old woman locked herself in a bedroom and spoke with dispatch, keeping them informed of the situation as she hid from the man.
The suspect had reportedly threatened suicide with a knife prior to when the shooting began, according to dispatch.
A crime lab has been called and detectives are investigating the scene. We will update as more information becomes available.
