Carson City MAC center opening rescheduled to Dec. 30
Delays in construction materials has forced a change in the grand opening schedule of the multi-purpose athletic center, also known as the MAC. The grand opening of the facility has been rescheduled for Dec. 30, 5:30 p.m.
“While the delay is disappointing, it is important to have the facility in a finished and polished condition for the public,” said Parks and Recreation Director Roger Moellendorf in a news release.
The MAC is one of projects being funded in part through the one eighth sales tax program. The majority of the $8.3 million project is being funded through the Quality of Life Fund. The Quality of Initiative was passed by voters in 1996.
The MAC is a 33,418 square foot building with an 8,115 square foot elevated running/walking track. The building includes two collegiate size basketball courts that can be converted to four smaller tournament size courts for basketball and volleyball. Other amenities include locker rooms, restrooms and administrative space. The project is located on 10.6 acres of land just south of the Boys and Girls Club at 1870 Russell Way.
Miles Construction of Carson City is the general contractor and VCBO of Salt Lake City, Utah is the project architect. Construction oversight is managed by the Public Works Department.
