Three teens arrested after Carson City deputy sees them breaking into cars
Three juveniles are in custody after Carson City authorities found them breaking into vehicles along East Robinson street early this morning.
Two 14-year-old boys and a 17-year-old admitted to the thefts and told officers after they were caught which vehicles they burglarized, said Deputy Thomas McDonald. About a dozen cars were broken into along Robinson Street.
The juveniles were discovered at 12:54 this morning by an officer parked along Robinson and Saliman streets. Officers who had been working burglary detail were a few blocks over and responded after the deputy saw the juveniles walking down the street checking cars and lifting handles.
The boys were detained, with one boy sent to the juvenile detention facility. The two remaining teens then identified for officers the cars they had hit and then were sent to the detention facility.
The boys apparently had been hanging out a gas station earlier in the night and then began walking down Roop Street, where they began their spree once they got to Robinson, McDonald said.
The boys told officers that they walked down the street and lifted vehicle handles. They boys said they were looking for money, purses or anything of value, McDonald said.
None of the cars that were hit had apparent damage. Vehicle owners who were burglarized can go to the Carson City Sheriff's Office at 911 East Musser Street and file a report at the front desk. The office opens at 8 a.m.
McDonald urged residents who park their vehicles on the street to keep them locked and to bring inside or hide any items of value.
