Carson City man faces child endangerment, other charges after search warrant issued
A Carson City man with an outstanding warrant was arrested on suspicion of gross misdemeanor child endangerment after law officers entered a home on a search warrant.
The 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday, 4:57 p.m. in the 200 block of South Harbin Street. His 32-year-old girlfriend faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting.
According to the arrest report, officers with the Carson City Special Enforcement Team learned the man was currently in a South Harbin Street home and had a confirmed warrant for his arrest for violation of a suspended sentence and failure to complete jail time.
On arrival officers received confirmation that the man was inside the apartment and had been living there for more than a month. Earlier in the day he was seen on the stairs in front of the apartment, the arrest report states.
Deputies knocked on the door announcing their presence several times. The man's girlfriend drove by the apartment and was stopped by a deputy. The woman stated the man was not inside the home, refused deputies entry into the apartment and told them to get a search warrant, the arrest report states.
An apartment manager arrived and stated they had twice given the man a warning about living in the apartment without being on the lease and it was considered trespassing until the paper work was completed, the arrest report states.
After knocking and announcing several times without a response, officers called the man and advised they were outside the apartment and asked him to come outside because of the warrant. The man told officers he was in California. The man was warned by officers that they would be applying for a search warrant to enter the apartment to look for him. The man requested more time and hung up. He then called a Tri-Net detective and told him he was in California, the arrest report states.
Officers applied for a received a telephonic search warrant to search the apartment. Deputies opened the front door and announced several times. The man didn't respond. Deputies entered the back bedroom where the man yelled out that he was holding a baby. Deputies yelled for the man to put the baby down and to come out, the arrest report states.
After several commands, the man yelled that he was putting the baby down and would come out of the bedroom, the report states. At around the same time of the search, the man's girlfriend pulled up in her vehicle where she met with an Alternative Sentencing officer who instructed her to remain in the vehicle while deputies searched the apartment. The woman refused the orders and attempted to push past the officer. She resisted the officer's attempts to stop her, and was taken to the ground and handcuffed, the arrest report states.
Deputies entering the apartment observed mail belonging to the man, as well as male clothing hanging in a closet, appearing as though he had been living there for some time. Deputies contacted Child Protective Services and the woman's children were released to CPS.
The man was booked for the warrant, child endangerment, obstructing, trespassing and being an ex-felon failing to change his address. Bail: $4,616. Bail for the woman facing the obstructing charge: $412.
