Nevada Highway Patrol identifies driver in fatal Oct. 29 crash near Fernley
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 28-year-old Utah resident who died in a single vehicle crash Thursday on I-80 near Fernley.
On Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at approximately 2:43 p.m., NHP troopers responded to a crash involving a single vehicle on Interstate 80 and mile marker 40, outside of Fernley.
A preliminary investigation shows that a white 2004 Nissan Sentra was traveling on IR-80 when the driver, Michelle Norton of Clinton, Utah, allowed the vehicle to drift into the outside shoulder. Norton overcorrected steering to the right and lost control of the vehicle, which overturned.
Norton was unrestrained, ejected from the vehicle, and succumbed to injuries on scene. Her passenger was transported with non-incapacitating injuries, according to NHP news release.
This crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) NHP Case No. 201001979.
