49th annual Virginia City Grand Prix event canceled for 2020
The 2020 Virginia City Grand Prix has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
Entering its 49th year, Virginia City’s historic annual off-road race was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event was rescheduled twice in hopes of holding the event for 2020.
“The 2020 Virginia City Grand Prix has become another unfortunate casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the VCGP said in a statement on its official Facebook page. “With no ability to obtain an event permit, the VCMC was forced to cancel this year’s race, even after having rescheduled twice.
All 2020 early registration entries have been canceled. Orders have been established by the VCGP for participants to receive a full fee refund. The two-step process can be found here.
Set in the historic landmark of Virginia City, the annual grand prix is a classic off-road motorcycle race for participants of all ages to participate. The event is jam-packed with excitement and entertainment over two days.
The COVID-19 pandemic canceled this year’s Virginia City Grand Prix, but optimism remains that the event will return in 2021.
“We lost the 2020 battle to hold a race, but we’ll be back next year in a big way,” the statement read. “We look forward to seeing you all in Virginia City for 2021 and the 49th annual VCGP.”
