The Carson City Fair is now taking applications today for volunteers, committee members
The Carson City Fair has been steadily growing and coming into its own the last few years, and has now decided to form an independent non-profit organization dedicated to continuing their work.
They are now taking applications for volunteers and committee members who may be interested in helping the fair realize its full, capital city potential and will be hosting a meeting for prospective volunteers today, October 15 at 4 p.m.
The committees that are currently open for volunteers are:
- Special Events
- Advertising/Media Outreach
- Sponsors and Donors
- Static Display
- Facilities
- Volunteer Management
- Silent Auction
"The fair is important because this is the support fair for yearly 4-H projects that youth participate in, it provides an opportunity for the local community to submit projects and arts/crafts for judging and awards (and is the only fair in the area that provides this sort of structure), and it is a celebration of Nevada’s agricultural practices and heritage," said Ethan Mower of the Carson City Fair Board. "We are making a concerted effort to make it friendly and fun for the whole family."
Mower and the rest of the Fair Board have their sights set on the future of the fair, and hope it will grow to be one of Nevada's prized fairs.
With the Fair changing from being a part of the University of Nevada, Reno into its own non-profit, this now opens up possibilities of what the fair can become moving forward, but it also means that they will need an increase of local involvement from the community.
The Fair Board will be hosting a meeting today, Tuesday October 15 at the UNR cooperative extension conference room located at 2621 Northgate Lane, Ste. 15, Carson City.
"We will be asking for volunteers to head and volunteer on different committees, giving an update on the formation of the non-profit, and planning the various aspects of next years fair," said Mower. "We will also be deciding on a theme for the fair."
The next meeting will be held Nov. 12 for those who are interested but unable to make the meeting today.
