Babysitting in the time of COVID-19: No cost virtual class offered for teens
Babysitting classes have often been offered in the Carson City area by a variety of agencies, but none have been offered during a pandemic until now.
The University of Nevada, Cooperative Extension will be hosting it’s first free virtual babysitting class for teens beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6 and will be held every Tuesday through the end of October.
“Are you home caring for your brothers and sisters and would like to increase your babysitter knowledge and skills? Babysitting is a great opportunity, but caring for a child is also a ver big responsibility,” Jim Barcellos of the Cooperative Extension said.
Topics will include age and stages of children, basic first aid, emergency procedures, activity ideas, healthy food, and more.
Teenagers from grade 8 through 12 are welcome. The first Tuesday will cover the 4H program, what makes a good babysitter, and skills.
The second Tuesday will include ages and stages, games and activities, and a babysitter handbook of tricks.
The third Tuesday will include staying in control, rules for successful babysitting, and babysitting fee negotiations.
The final Tuesday will include a virtual party and participation certificate.
Each Tuesday session will begin at 3:30 p.m. and end at 4:30 p.m.
In order to be included in this free virtual class, please contact Jim Barcellos, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension at (775) 887-2252 or Leticia Servin at (775) 283-1620 .
