Where Wild meets West: Virginia City Rodeo returns this weekend
Don your boots and cowboy hats for two-days of rodeo in Virginia City this weekend. It’s a Wild West show done up Virginia City style, filled with favorite events and a whole lot of the unexpected.
Among the features includes a long-horn cattle drive down C Street, a mutton busting tournament and the Fiesta Del Charro, a Mexican rodeo.
Get up close and personal with bull riders, wild broncs, kids’ mutton busting, Mexican bullfighting and more.
Beginning Saturday, Aug. 18 at high noon, Virginia City’s main street will be taken over by a herd of Texas longhorns marking the first time in 40 years such a spectacle has taken place.
The cattle will make their way to the Virginia City Arena & Fairgrounds for the 1 p.m. start of the Virginia City Rodeo, presented in collaboration with Cotton Rosser and the Flying U Rodeo company.
Then on Sunday, Aug. 19, the Comstock’s newest event, the Fiesta del Charro — a Mexican rodeo complete with bull fighting, trick roping, dancing horses and a focus on Hispanic heritage.
