Baldini's Casino breaks ground on High Sierra Brewery, Tim Mason named head brewer
Baldini’s Casino in Sparks has begun work on its latest addition, High Sierra Brewery, a 15-barrel brew house and restaurant slated to open in the fall of 2014.
Development of the brewery is the result of a partnership between Baldini’s and High Sierra Brewing Company owner Jim Phalan. Together, Phalan and Baldini’s General Manager Craig Soper have recruited award-winning brewer Tim Mason as Head Brewer for the new establishment. The brewery relocated after leaving Carson City earlier this year.
High Sierra Brewery is a welcome addition to the Sparks casino, featuring nearly a dozen beers on tap, including High Sierra’s gold-medal-winning Buzzed Bee Honey Ale. Head Brewer Tim Mason has more than 20 years experience creating custom brews including taking home both gold and silver medals in the inaugural World Beer Cup in 1996. Since then, Mason has spent time working abroad in the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Croix, the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. His return to brewing in the continental United States is a much anticipated move and one High Sierra looks forward to capitalizing on.
“I am really looking forward to opening the doors to our newest location inside Baldini’s,” said Jim Phalan, owner of High Sierra Brewing Company. “Between the amazing partnership I have forged with Baldini’s, to recruiting one of the nation’s top brewers, I believe that the High Sierra Brewery is going to be a great new addition to the Reno-Sparks market and one that residents and visitors are really going to enjoy.”
High Sierra Brewery is anticipated to open in October 2014 and will feature a 180-seat restaurant. There will be daily happy hours and an eclectic pub-style menu with favorites that include an award-winning Pastrami Sandwich, hand-crafted Tri-Tip Tailgaters and fresh pizzas made with special Bailed Barley dough. High Sierra will also host beer tasting events and dinners featuring special creations from their kitchen paired with custom beers in the chef’s private dining room inside the brewery.
“On behalf of the entire Baldini’s team, I am proud to say that we are excited and looking forward to this partnership with Jim and High Sierra Brewing,” said Baldini’s General Manager Craig Soper. “Between Jim’s record of success and his award-winning craft beer, the extraordinarily talented head brewer, and a full menu of delicious eats, I am certain that High Sierra Brewery is set for success.”
High Sierra Brewery adds to Baldini’s existing food and beverage offerings including the Empire Diner, a railroad-themed eatery that pays tribute to Sparks’ history as the Rail City, open 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The Brickyard Bar & Grill is ideal for a quick bite before heading home or a meal that can satisfy any taste – without breaking the bank – including the $1.99 Burger Basket. And don’t forget the Over Under Bar, a perfect place for catching the big game and relaxing with friends, celebrating daily happy hour from 2 – 7 p.m.
