Culinary leader and influential restaurateur Mark Estee invites the Carson City community to join him in celebration of The Union’s one-year anniversary and the launch of “The Union Backyard” on Friday, June 8, from 5-9 p.m.

Estee, who has helped develop the culinary experience in Northern Nevada, launched The Union last year with Mark Trujillo of Hub Coffee Roasters to bring American Brewhouse cuisine and his own Italian influence to Carson City. Lake Tahoe Brewing Company owner Michael Candelario announced this week that the downtown Carson City location at the corner of South Carson and West Proctor streets is "temporarily closing."

Candelario sent a letter to his employees earlier this week stating that the brewery had been operating at reduced capacity because of problems with their brewing equipment. He later confirmed to Carson Now that the main problem is with the boiler unit that they are not able to fix.

Welcome to the first day of vacation for all you kids (and teachers) out there. There are some great ways to spend these days off. Head to Carson Lanes for one dollar specials all day long. The ice rink at Arlington Square has extended hours for the next two weeks, so strap on some skates and have fun. Santa will be at the Carson Mall every day until Christmas Eve. Hymns and Homebrew is a little bit church pot luck, a little bit pub-culture, and a little bit old fashioned hymn-sing. It's a chance to come as you are and experience traditional music of the church in a new context, and maybe recapture some of the joy of the original composers. In December, we're tossing out the normal hymn books and singing our favorite Christmas carols. Musicians are invited to bring their instruments and join in; song sheets are provided.
