Carson City woman captures Bison Fire in photos along Highway 395 trip return
Sena Loyd was returning to Carson City Sunday from a holiday trip to Disneyland when she began to take photos of the Bison Fire along Highway 395.
She and Joseph Spencer first saw the smoke 57 miles north of Bishop. As they continued north the smoke became heavier, denser.
"We did not expect to see the fire when we were outside Bishop, when we did we were a bit worried," she said.
Learning the fire worsened Sunday, Loyd said she was thinking of the tragedy in Arizona, the 19 firefighters who lost their lives June 30 and was concerned when she read that containment had actually decreased.
"As we came up on the fire we commented to each other about the smoke filling up most of the sky and that the smoke was dark and appeared to have plenty of fuel," she said.
"As we drove into Carson City the sun was setting and we could still see embers glowing as we reached Target, In-n-Out. We hope everyone is ok and that all residences under evacuation are able to be saved. Thanks to all the brave firefighters!"
From left to right, the first four photos were taken traveling north of Bishop, the next to photos were taken outside of Walker, Calif., and the final photos were taken from Gardnerville to Carson City.
