UPDATE 2:20PM: The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday for much of eastern Sierra and western Nevada in anticipation of thunderstorms and strong outflow winds.

As record temperatures are anticipated for the region this weekend, moisture will begin to filter across the Sierra with isolated thunderstorms possible as early as Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Strong outflow winds and dry lightning strikes are possible with these storms Friday and Saturday.
A Fire Weather Watch has been issued by the weather Service because of the threat posed by dry lightning strikes. Moisture will continue to filter in across the region with shower and thunderstorm coverage becoming more widespread and increasing through western Nevada. Localized areas of small hail, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding will be possible heading into early next week.
A Heat Advisory is in effect from Friday through Sunday for much of Northern Nevada including Dayton and Silver Springs. Afternoon highs will remain above 100 degrees and may exceed 105. The record heat may increase the risk for heat-related illnesses and dehydration, especially for the elderly and people sensitive to hot temperatures.
The National Weather Service notes high temperatures will be around the century mark for Carson City and above 100 degrees in the Dayton area with a Saturday high of 102. Protect your pets, give them plenty of cold water, change it often and keep them indoors.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Re-schedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. The Carson City Fire Department urges residents to be aware of the impending heat wave and take appropriate measures.
To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location.
