Another inmate in Carson City escapes, quickly recaptured
A minimum security inmate broke out of a window and took off on foot early Tuesday morning from the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City before quickly being recaptured, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
Inmate Gregory Dale Dakota Sky Maine, Jr., 27, was taken into custody after escaping at around 5:42 a.m. Officers immediately responded after Maine jumped through a window and took off running, said Brooke Santina, spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Corrections.
Maine was committed from Washoe County Sept. 30, 2016 and is serving a sentence of 24-60 months for domestic battery by strangulation.
Shortly before 6 a.m. Maine was recaptured by correctional officers from both Stewart Camp and Northern Nevada Correctional Center in the area of Racetrack Road, a Carson City residential area, said Santina.
Maine suffered minor injuries. There were no injuries to NDOC staff. His escape extinguishes any opportunity for him to be housed in a minimum security camp setting in the future, said Santina.
Meanwhile, Carson City Jail inmate Michael Bass was taken into custody Monday night in Reno. The Regional Crime Suppression Unit located Bass Monday night, 9:41 p.m. in the area of 7th and Keystone Streets in Reno. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility with new charges of obstructing and resisting.
He will remain at the Washoe County Detention Facility until his charges in Reno are satisfied and then returned to Carson City to finish out his existing sentence and face a new charge of escape.
