Man dies in officer involved shooting in South Lake Tahoe
A man is dead after an officer involved shooting early Monday morning in South Lake Tahoe. Two South Lake Tahoe police officers responded at 2:40 a.m. to a suspicious circumstance call at Tahoe Hacienda Inn, in the 3800 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard, said South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler.
The officers had been dispatched in response to a caller reporting sounds of woman screaming and crying. At approximately 2:50 am, an officer involved shooting occurred whereby a man in his early 20s was struck, said Uhler. As is standard procedure, the SLTPD Officer who was involved in the shooting is being placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
Officers immediately began to render assistance to the man and called for paramedics. The man was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital, where two hours later at around 5 a.m. he died. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, Coroner unit, said Uhler in a news release.
Pursuant to the mutual aid Critical Incident Protocol, the investigation into the incident will be conducted jointly by SLTPD, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office.
This investigation is unfolding and information is preliminary, according to the news release.
