Carson City officers find several domesticated rats living inside RV
A code enforcement check Wednesday of a motorhome that was thought to be abandoned on a Carson City street turned out to have several guests living inside.
Between 15 to 20 domesticated rats and several babies were discovered running loose inside the otherwise unoccupied RV, which was parked on the side of the road near Lompa and Sherman lanes, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
A volunteer with the city's code enforcement unit arrived at the vehicle around 8:30 a.m. believing it had been abandoned after it had been observed sitting vacant for several days. The officer took a peek inside the motorhome window and saw something that resembled a hairy head that didn't move.
Believing the situation to be serious, a Carson City Sheriff's patrol officer was called. He also looked inside and observed what appeared to be something that resembled a furry head that wasn't moving and then something else moving around inside, according to the sheriff's office.
At around the time the officers were looking through the window, the owner of the RV arrived and asked that it not be towed. When the door was opened, several domesticated rats were observed running around inside.
The rats were released to animal control. The owner agreed to remove the motorhome.
