Senators Contribute Their State Athletes In Track and Field
This Friday and Saturday, Carson High School was privileged enough to host the state championship track and field meet. The meet included over 2,500 athletes from all divisions of schools within the state of Nevada.
The Senators sent 11 of those athletes including: Kody Baker, Corey Reid, ValerieSue Meyer, Asa Carter, Athena Favaro, Madison Preston, Sahara Winder, Josilyn Daggs, Alex Drozdoff, Jessie Balkwell, Lauren Hudak, and Eveline Delgado to the elite state level. As a team, they brought back a couple of medals including: gold in the men’s 400m by Corey Reid, silver in the women’s 400m by Valerie Sue Meyer, silver in the triple jump by Madison Preston, and bronze in the 4x100m relay team of Athena Favero, ValerieSue Meyer, Sahara Winder, and Josilyn Daggs.
Other honorable mentions include: fourth in the 300m hurdles by Reid, fourth in the long jump by Preston, and fifth in the 4x800m with the team of Jessie Balkwell, Alex Drozdoff, Lauren Hudak, and Eveline Delgdo. Josilyn Daggs took sixth in the 100m hurdles and Asa Carter would take sixth in the triple jump.
All in all, the performance from the Carson team was as expected. They received a lot of team performances by the relays and had the athletes who usually step up do just that. The home field advantage didn't play too much to Carson's advantage as far as the team points were concerned to either the guys or girls. The guys placed eleventh in the state as a team, and the girls took a slightly more impressive seventh.
