Carson City Sheriff’s Office seeks volunteers for community policing program
Have you ever wondered what goes on inside those double doors at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office? You can find out by becoming a volunteer.
Sheriff Ken Furlong is committed to having a strong partnership with the citizens of Carson City and the community at large. In keeping with his commitment, the sheriff has developed the Volunteers in Partnership program, also known as VIPS.
This program enables citizens 18 years of age or older with an interest in assisting law enforcement and providing community service, the opportunity to volunteer as VIPS and serve through the Sheriff’s Office.
This important partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Carson City will make our community a safer, better place to live.
Volunteers will be subject to a background check and should be willing to commit to at least 8 hours a month. However, there may be times when specialized tasks require additional hours. Volunteers receive training in various law enforcement and related functions that include: Detention, records, radio training as well as crime prevention and citizens patrol. There’s also the VIPS for Vets program.
We are looking for people who want to get involved in Carson City. Our program is consistently growing and new volunteers are always welcome. If you are interested in this important program, contact Ken Smith, Volunteer Coordinator, for further information. The telephone number is (775) 887-2020, Extension 41932.
