House party lands Carson City man in jail for resisting, obstructing and contributing to minors

CARSON CITY — A 23-year-old capital city man who boasted to law officers that he had "been to the joint" before now faces misdemeanor charges of resisting and obstructing a law officer and contributing to the delinquency of minors following an arrest at his apartment.
Carson City law officers responded to an apartment at 20 College Parkway in Carson City on Sunday after a report of a fight that had been called in to dispatch. An officer arrived and found several people standing on a patio and loud music coming from an apartment. The officer observed several opened containers of alcohol on the patio and in the hands of several subjects.
As other deputies arrived the arresting deputy observed the 23-year-old suspect enter the apartment. The officer moved toward the front door of the apartment and noticed that another man entered the apartment when the officer asked him for identification. The officer knocked on the door and asked the 23-year-old suspect to have the unknown male subject return to the door.
The suspect, who smelled of alcohol and had watery eyes, asked the officer "who are you talking about" and then told the officer that the door was locked. The officer asked the suspect for identification and the man said "No, I am in my home." The officer repeated the request and the man told the officer: "I've been to prison, I don't need to give you anything," according to the arrest report.
The officer then observed the man take a step back and then into a bladed stance. The officer stepped back away from the door as the suspect moved forward and told the officer in a threatening manner "I've been to the joint" before. As the suspect did this, the officer stepped forward and grabbed the man's right arm, placing him in a rear wrist lock control hold, taking control of his left arm, according to the report.
The man was placed into handcuffs and taken to a patrol vehicle. As the officer was walking with the subject, he began yelling at the people on the patio. The officer told him not to yell because it was 2:30 in the morning. The cuffed man then turned to the officer in an aggressive manner, and the officer took the man, who began resisting, to the ground. The man yelled out "somebody tape this," according to the arrest report. The officer picked the man off the ground and escorted him to the patrol car.
Prior to placing the suspect in the patrol vehicle the officer conducted a systematic overlapping search of the man in front of other officers. As he was conducting the search the man stated: "take off the hand cuffs and you will be sorry." The officer completed the search and checked the hand cuffs for appropriate tightness. The officer asked the suspect for a preliminary breath test for which the suspect replied: "F*** no, the state can pay for the test," according to the arrest report. The officer then placed the man in the rear seat of the vehicle. Once the man was sitting he told the arresting officer, he said: "I'm gonna cut my wrist with these handcuffs; you're in trouble now."
Because of the statements made by the suspect, a supervisor was called to the scene. Another deputy stood by during the investigation and search for the identification of the man, found in a wallet. The man was escorted to jail. He faces charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors, obstructing an officer and resisting a public officer. His bail was set at $1,369.
