Woman who robbed elderly Carson City woman in December sentenced to prison
A Carson City judge sentenced a woman to prison Monday in the December 2014 robbery of a 99-year-old woman.
Joanna Grajeda, who pled guilty to the crime of robbery, will get 3 to 10 years in prison as ordered by Carson City District Court Judge James Russell. Two others have also pled guilty and were sentenced to prison.
The Carson City District Attorney’s Office had argued for the maximum sentence 6 to 15 years but Judge Russell rejected the tougher sentence because of the Grajeda’s lack of criminal history. Grajeda was the one who physically robbed the victim, who was not injured in the robbery.
Two others involved, Victoria Mora, pled to her role in a criminal conspiracy earlier this month and received up to six years in prison, 28-72 months of consecutive terms. The third woman, Barbara “Bexy” Mora, was sentenced to the maximum 15 years for robbery and five years for possession of stolen property. When Barbara Mora was booked into jail, the victim’s driver’s license was in her possession.
On Dec. 4, 2014, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a robbery at the 600 block of East Spear Street, near downtown Carson City. At the scene, the 99-year-old victim reported that a female had confronted her in her garage and forcefully took her purse. The victim reported approximately $300 to $500 cash was in the purse, along with personal belongings.
On Dec. 16, detectives contacted three females at their home on Carson Meadows Drive regarding reports of suspected stolen property. All three women were taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Carson City Jail.
On Dec. 18, following investigative activities, warrants were issued for the three including Joanna Grajeda, who committed the robbery.
With the third person in the robbery prosecuted, Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury said he’s pleased Grajeda and the others will spend a substantial period of time in prison.
