WNC Baseball: SWAC Honors Lichty, Ragan
Western Nevada College sophomore catcher Tim Lichty recently became the first two-time winner of the 2016 Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week baseball honor.
In addition, Lichty's Wildcat teammate, freshman Jordan Ragan, earned the SWAC's Pitcher of the Week award for his complete-game shutout against conference leader College of Southern Nevada on April 2.
Lichty was lauded for his offensive tear against Utah State University Eastern on March 24 and 25 in Price. During the four-game series, Lichty was 10 for 15 with nine RBI and seven runs scored. Four of Lichty's hits were home runs.
The left-handed Ragan three-hit the Coyotes, leading WNC to a 5-0 victory. He fanned four and walked four as the Wildcats avoided a four-game sweep.
Ragan is the third WNC pitcher to be honored this spring. Sophomore left-hander Chase Kaplan was previously selected as Pitcher of the Week and sophomore left-hander Matt Young was chosen Player of the Week early in the season.
WNC sophomore center fielder DJ Peters also earned SWAC Player of the Week honor on Feb. 1.
