Carson City weather: Valley rain through Monday with snow in the Sierra
Another early spring system will move into the Carson City and Sierra areas later Sunday night through Monday bringing a chance of rain in the valley and some snow accumulation to the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.
The bulk of the precipitation is forecasted to move through late Sunday evening into early Monday morning bringing between 5 to 7 inches of snow above 7,000 feet. Snow levels may vary, however. The weather service hasn't ruled out a chance of snow showers for the foothills above Carson City and Reno and in Virginia City, which may see a couple of slushy, wet inches of snow.
Otherwise we can expect rain showers in the valleys around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas.
For the Sierra, even though accumulations will be considerably lower compared to what the Lake Tahoe region has experienced over the past three months, there may be enough of it to cause travel disruptions for the Monday morning commute with icy and slick road conditions, especially for the passes.
The weather services advises to give yourself extra time when traveling during Monday morning. Snow accumulation will be minimal below 6,500 feet due to the higher late March sun angle contributing to warmer ground and road surfaces.
Daytime highs Sunday for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will be in the mid 50s, with night time lows in the low 30s. Monday's daytime high will be near 50 with nighttime lows around 32. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies and a return to spring conditions with a chance of showers on Thursday and sunny skies returning Friday.
