Another storm system will move its way into the region Tuesday, bringing rain and gusty winds to Carson City and lower valley regions and heavy, wet snow to the Sierra through Thursday and possibly beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow covered roadways in and around Carson City Monday morning may have a layer of ice underneath, so motorists should drive with caution on their commute into, out of or around the Nevada state capital this morning.

There will be a few extra motorists in Carson City starting today and for the next 120 days as the 2019 Nevada Biennial Legislative Session begins.

A clearer picture of what this week’s series of storms may bring has emerged from National Weather Service forecasters Monday, with a Winter Storm Watch now in effect for Lake Tahoe and Sierra, which could see 3 or more feet of snow and a slight chance of snow down to the valley floors by the end of the week.

A series of storms will move through the Sierra and Carson City region beginning Tuesday and lasting through the weekend bringing periods of rain, wind and snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Another early spring system will move into the Carson City and Sierra areas later Sunday night through Monday bringing a chance of rain in the valley and some snow accumulation to the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow plows are out in force this Sunday morning around Carson City after a winter storm brought a couple inches of snow to the valley floors. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon today for much of the area while a Winter Storm Warning runs until 4 p.m. for the Sierra.

Enjoy this last day of mild weather before a moderate winter storm moves into the Carson City and Sierra regions late Saturday into Sunday. This storm will bring gusty winds, prompting a Wind Advisory from the National Weather Service, rain and heavy snow.

Dry weather over western Nevada, Carson City and Sierra will continue over the next couple days with more storms headed our way into next weekend and possibly beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

After a brief break, active weather will return to the Carson City and Sierra regions Thursday bringing mountain snow, valley rain and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

A potent lake effect snowfall band continues to develop Monday across Lake Tahoe and extends along Highway 50 through Carson City and as far east Dayton and Virgina City. It's a part of an active weather pattern that will be around through the week that could bring several feet of snow to the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

A strong cold front is expected to move into Northwestern Nevada Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno reports, bringing with it gusty southwest winds in the 30-40 mile per hour (MPH) range and precipitation in the form of rain possibly turning to snow as temperatures drop.

Rain and possible snow showers are headed our way, with a weather system that should begin arriving overnight, according to the National Weather Service. For Carson City, forecasters are saying it will be more rain than snow in the capital city Wednesday and if there is snow, it will be less than a half inch.

It's slow going out there on the highways and roads around Carson City this morning with freezing fog and early morning snow showers. The National Weather Service in Reno says the fog will stick around this morning and has issued a freezing fog weather advisory.

Blustery conditions are expected to kick up ahead of the first of two winter storm systems that will bring heavy snow to Lake Tahoe and rain with the potential for snow showers around Carson City.

A High Wind Warning for Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas is in effect from midnight through 4 p.m. Thursday.

Two back to back winter storm systems that could bring the heaviest snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra in more than a year, gusty winds and a good rain soaking around Carson City should begin to arrive late Wednesday into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Hopefully Eagle Lake, California, is looking like this wintry foggy scene today. Carson City received some morning snow,and hopefully it snowed much more in the High Sierra.
This beautiful large lake is now almost dry, and we need another good winter of snow for the lake to fill up with water again. This photo was taken at Eagle Lake a few years ago, right after a snowstorm. Eagle Lake is about 2 hours and 45 minutes from Carson City. It's an easy trip, from Carson City north up 395 to Susanville, then west on Hwy 36, climbing to the lake.

A wet weather pattern will bring snow to the Sierra and rain to the western valleys and Carson City beginning Wednesday and persist into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The first of two storms will arrive late Wednesday afternoon and persist into Thursday morning. Snow amounts of 10 to 18 inches near the crest, 3 to 8 inches at Lake Tahoe level, and 2 to 4 inches along Highway 395 in Mono County will result in slick and hazardous road conditions. For lower valley floors, rain is expected and impacts will be minimal, according to the weather service.

A developing storm system will move into the region beginning late Tuesday and drop into Western Nevada and the Sierra by early Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Reno reports. The system could bring up to a foot or more of snow to the Lake Tahoe area and a few inches to Carson City.

Winds will increase ahead of the storm system along the Sierra front late Tuesday afternoon, with gusts up to 50 mph by early Tuesday night.
