Carson City's Fremont Elementary students to be rezoned to Eagle Valley Middle next year
The Carson City School Board voted unanimously Tuesday evening during their meeting to rezone Fremont Elementary School students to Eagle Valley Middle School to alleviate population strain.
Fremont students were, until this point, zoned for Carson Middle School, which is now “bursting at the seams” with students according to several board and staff members who discussed the issue during the meeting.
Around one hundred students will be rezoned for Eagle Valley Middle School beginning next year during the 2020-2021 school year.
It was discussed that keeping more students at Carson Middle School, despite overcrowding, would negatively impact the education of students.
“I think making both schools more equitable is a benefit to our students,” said Board Vice President Joe Cacioppo.
A new addition to Eagle Valley Middle School will be completed during the school year 2022-2023 in order to grow proportionately with the new Fremont students.
The Board hopes that Carson City will work with the school district to mitigate new traffic issues related to rezoning if need be.
