The Carson City Sheriff's Office was alerted late Tuesday morning to an explosive device that was left at the administration building by a person who wanted to dispose it. The device was carried outside by Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The call came into dispatch at around 10:50 a.m. The device, a hand grenade, was brought in by a citizen who wanted it disposed, said Furlong. The Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad was called to the scene. The hand grenade appears rusty and old.
Furlong moved a box containing the explosive outside of the administration building, across the street. Musser Street in the area of the Sheriff's Office has been closed.
The administrative office has been closed for the next two hours.
Furlong advises the public that whenever they have an explosive device they want to get rid of, they should not bring it to the sheriff's office administration building but to call dispatch instead, which will send over officers.
