Man jailed on 20K bail after giving fake name, then fleeing from Carson City deputy

A 21-year-old man arrested Tuesday faces a felony charge of providing false information to a law enforcement officer to avoid prosecution following an incident that happened in December, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said in a report.
Jackson Jerald Baker was arrested in relation to the Dec. 7 incident, according to the arrest report. On that day, deputies were patrolling the area of E. William Street, looking for graffiti in the area where graffiti had been reported earlier when they observed a man sitting on a stairwell outside of a grocery store.
Deputies approached the man to see if any new graffiti was in the immediate area of him. Deputies asked for his identification and he said he did not have any. When deputies asked for his name, he hesitated and began looking around. Deputies asked again, and he gave a name that was not Jackson Baker.
However, the name he did provide came back with an active warrant from Douglas County.
Deputies noted the man was “acting very paranoid, and he kept looking around and was very anxious.” He continued to stick his hands in his pockets despite being told to keep them out.
The reporting deputy searched his person for weapons and found none. While the deputy went back to their patrol vehicle to enter his information, the man took off running.
Deputies searched the area but couldn’t find the man. The reporting deputy spent the rest of their assigned shift searching for the man. They went into numerous businesses and showed a photograph to employees around the downtown area.
Employees advised deputies the man was named Jackson, not the name he had given deputies. Eventually deputies were able to learn his full name was Jackson Baker, who came back with an active warrant out of Carson City, issued on Dec. 20, 2017.
Deputies went to his last known address, which was vacant. They checked his driver’s license registration and learned he had renewed his license with an address on N. Nevada Street.
Deputies went to the address and spoke to a woman who identified herself as Baker’s mother. She told deputies she hadn’t seen him in over nine months and hadn’t known he was in Carson City. She told deputies he may possibly be working at a local store on Market Street.
Deputies went to the store and spoke with a manager, who said Baker had recently been let go from his job and was no longer with the company.
Nothing further came from the search until Feb. 19, when the reporting deputy learned Baker had been arrested on Feb. 17 and was currently in custody at the Carson City Jail. The additional felony charge was added to his arrest. Bail: $20,000.
