Carson City Supervisors quickly vote down property tax hike
It happened almost too fast. Mayor Bob Crowell made a quick motion, and asked if anyone on the board had any appetite for raising property taxes. No one did.
The finance director spoke up to suggest a small adjustment for one area. Supervisor Karen Abowd made a different motion to keep taxes the same except for this small adjustment. That motion passed unanimously.
This all happened so fast that I didn't get the details of this adjustment. But the few anti-tax folks who had arrived in time up were all smiles. More of them are funneling in who don't know that part is over. Maybe they will hang around until the Nugget Project discussion this afternoon.
Now onto other issues on a very full agenda. You can follow along on twitter @carsonnow or #ccsupes.
Update: I was able to get the figures on the property tax details. The rate will rise from $3.0899 to $3.0909 per $100 of assessed valuation, or less than a penny.
