College baseball: WNC Wildcats win third straight series
Western Nevada College clinched its third consecutive road baseball series victory by overtaking Riverside City College with a big seventh inning on Saturday in Riverside, Calif.
Spenser Dorsey’s two-run single highlighted a six-run seventh inning and Tony Roque knocked in three runs on two hits as 14th-ranked WNC defeated the Tigers 8-2.
By taking two of the three nonconference games from the Tigers, the Wildcats’ series victory follows triumphs at 10th-ranked Cochise and Pima.
The Wildcats (7-4) outhit the Tigers, 10-5. Jake Bennett provided threehits and scored two runs for the Wildcats. Also for WNC, Dorsey was 2 for 5, Kody Reynolds scored twice and Christian Solo knocked in two runs.
In relief of starting pitcher Conor Harber, sophomore right-hander Rayne Raven earned his first win of the season. Raven worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings, only surrendering a walk.
Relievers Thomas Kerr, Dylan Hollister and Connor Zwetsch blanked the Tigers over the final two innings.
WNC is scheduled to hold its home opener against Prairie Baseball Academy of Lethbridge, Canada, on Wednesday at John L. Harvey Field.
