Riding the slopes through a winter wonderland
Winter is a time of cheer and for those who enjoy the snowy slopes it’s a time to carve your way down the mountain.
For many locals and out-of-towners they welcome the winter weather, anticipating prime skiing and snowboarding conditions.
A few different ski resorts and ski areas throughout the Shasta Cascade region that offer excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities. Skiing and snowboarding is a great winter sport that can be enjoyed by all ages.
The Mt. Shasta Ski Park is a popular destination for those seeking to log a few hours on the slopes, while taking in the incredible panoramic views. The ski park offers 425 acres of ride able terrain, 32 trails, night skiing, terrain parks, a super half pipe, 3 triple chair lifts, and more.
East near the historic town of Westwood is the Coppervale Ski Area, offering a poma lift, rope tow, half pipe, terrain park, and 5 miles of cross country skiing trails.
A place rich in history is the Plumas-Eureka Ski Bowl, which is claimed to have been the site of the first-ever ski lift in America. Back in the 1870’s miners would ride a series of gravity-powered trams (that originally carried ore) to the top of Eureka Peak, then they’d strap on their twelve-foot long, four-inch wide wooden skis and ski to the bottom.
Many local resorts offer great deals for skiers and boarders.
At the Mount Shasta Resort packages start at just $63.50 per person per night, you can create your own 2-4 day ski trip.
The McCloud River Mercantile Hotel offers packages that include lift tickets, you choose either a massage, luxurious salt soak, cross country skiing, or a dog sledding package.
No matter what your reason might be to experience the excellent skiing and snowboarding in the Shasta Cascade region one thing is for sure is that it will keep you coming back for more!
