What Works: Take Three Steps and Stand Up to Fear

I speak a lot about fear and how it can hold you back. This morning, I want to flip it a bit. Because, when you Face Everything and Rise, fear can actually be a good thing. First of all, your body is incapable of lying. Butterflies in the stomach, headaches, even body pains can tell you when something is going on.

These bodily responses can be used like a GPS though, to tell you what’s really going on inside you. It can tell you when fear is approaching. I challenge you, at least once this week, to stand your ground.

Another lunchtime distraction

A massive avalanche destroys a ski lift in France. No worries about that happening around here this year. Enjoy your Sunday.

Hikes are where you find them, sometimes at the top of a ski lift

Most experienced Carson City hikers would probably never consider starting a trip from the beginning of the Heavenly Mountain Resort's Gondola lift in South Lake Tahoe. It's not the most challenging trek around Carson City — you can always do Prison Hill from the river side or the city side and have a good view of Carson City and Slide Mountain. Or dead Man's Creek at Washoe Lake.

Tourism commission to expand and brand in updated Nevada visitor strategy

The Nevada Commission on Tourism has updated its strategic plan for attracting visitors, combining cost-effective new initiatives and time-tested programs with proven track records, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki said Tuesday.

The agency (http://travelnevada.com) will target U.S. consumer markets that have large populations with convenient driving distance or easy air access to Nevada and international markets whose travelers have a strong likelihood of visiting Nevada, such as Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Germany, said Krolicki, Nevada's tourism commission chair.
