NHP: New Year’s Eve enforcement activity slightly lower than last year
The Nevada Highway Patrol's preliminary enforcement activity numbers for New Year’s Eve, which were captured between 7:00 pm last evening through 5:00 am this morning, appear to be slightly lower than those reported by our agency one year ago.
Throughout the entire Northern Command West region, or roughly the northern third of the Silver State, five DUI arrests were made compared to seven motorists being arrested for the same offense last year. As for crashes investigated overnight during the same time period, Troopers responded to a total of six collisions; four were property damage events while the other two involved some form of injuries. None of the injuries were life-threatening. Conversely, five crashes were reported during last year’s time frame with two being property damage and the remaining three involving injuries.
In an effort to provide a highly visible presence of Troopers on our state’s highways last evening and overnight, several shift schedules were adjusted to maximize our traffic safety efforts. Additionally, our “joining forces” holiday impairment enforcement campaign, which started on December 13th, will continue through January 6, 2014. This particular highway safety initiative will staff additional Troopers on our highways with grant funding secured by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety and paid for by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Northern Command West geographical area covers all of Washoe, Storey, Lyon and Douglas counties, along with portions of Churchill, Pershing, Mineral, Esmeralda and Nye counties.
