Carson City's other movie theater needs a little more love
On a recent Saturday night I went to see the James Bond classic Goldfinger at Carson Stadium Cinemas, 2571 N Carson St. I'd seen that movie when it was released in 1964, and I have the DVD as part of a boxed set of James Bond films, but I was thrilled when it appeared on the marquee because there is nothing like seeing a movie made for the big screen on an actual big screen.
You might think your 65-inch OLED is fantastic, and it is as far as it goes, but no TV set can compare to watching a timeless classic like Goldfinger in all it's digital glory on a 65-footer in the cool darkness of an actual brick-and-mortar movie house, especially when the price of admission is four dollars a head.
I didn't see very many cars in the parking lot on my way in, and not a soul was in the lobby on my way out, so I asked one of the young staffers if it had been a slow night. It was worse. I'd been the one and only customer. Four classic movies, one moviegoer.
It goes without saying that business has been slow lately. It also goes without saying that Carson's movie lovers had better start showing up at our city's bargain cinema or there won't be a place for a family of four to have a $16 night out for much longer.
Anybody being forced to stay home because of the virus can still do their part by contributing to the "Save Carson Stadium Cinemas" GoFundMe page.

The Bloomhuff family has kept our theater's doors open because they love the community as much as they love movies. It might be time for the community to show them some love in return.
