Severe thunderstorm remains in effect for Western Carson City Sunday evening
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Western Carson City until 6:45 p.m. Sunday evening, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.
A severe thunderstorm was located near Sugar Pine Point South, or 7 miles northwest of South Lake Tahoe, at 6:25 p.m. Sunday and moving north at 15 miles per hour (mph).
The storm may include wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, fencing and trees.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
If on or near Lake Tahoe, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember that lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter. Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
