Press Release for DUI Checkpoint March 17th, 2012.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Joining Forces, will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint from 6:00 pm to midnight on Saturday, March 17th. Sheriff’s Office personnel will be greeting all drivers that pass through the checkpoint. To keep traffic flowing smoothly, any drivers that show signs of being under the influence will be directed to a second screening area to avoid back up during the checkpoint.
In addition to screening drivers for any signs of impairment, staff will also be conducting Child Passenger Safety (CPS) checks. The Sheriff’s Office is proud to have all five officers assigned to the Traffic Division trained and certified as CPS Specialists. The traffic officers can show parents how to properly install and secure child car seats and explain the child seat laws. Any parents who are concerned about the safety or installation of their child safety seats are encouraged to come through the check point, there will be an area designated to speak with trained staff and have seats checked for safety. The checkpoint will be on Carson Street at Colorado Street.
The goal of Joining Forces and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is to have zero fatalities, safe streets, and to ensure everyone involved in St Patrick’s Day festivities has fun and makes it home safe. This Joining Forces event is grant funded.
