A 34-year-old man was arrested early Sunday in the 300 block of East William Street for suspicion of felony burglary after allegedly stealing cash from a drive-through window at a fast food restaurant, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

CARSON CITY — One of the deadliest and most often committed of crimes is impaired driving. It has become a serious safety epidemic in our state. Impaired drivers have consistently been the most common cause of motor vehicle crashes resulting in injuries and deaths in Nevada.

A 52 year-old transient man was arrested Friday afternoon at 1:04 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on misdemeanor charges of ex-felon failing to register and soliciting motorists, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

With St. Patrick's Day being one of the biggest holidays centered around partying, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department will have a DUI Checkpoint as well as extra patrols on the roads to help lower deaths and injuries.
The checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.

On Saturday Feb. 20, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a compliance checkpoint on William Street. In addition to focusing on impaired drivers, the checkpoint will also be looking for driver’s license and registration violations.

The compliance checkpoint scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31, has been postponed due to weather conditions. Impaired driving saturation patrols will remain in effect Sunday. The checkpoint will be rescheduled in the near future.

A 27-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Friday on a felony DUI charge after a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday that injured a passenger, a South Lake Tahoe police sergeant said. Extra patrolling and DUI checkpoints are happening this July 4 weekend throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that the 2014, 4th of July celebration in Douglas County went well. The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown Casino Core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved. Speeders along Highway 50 between Carson City and Lake Tahoe may have felt the pinch in a two-day saturation patrol by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

In the Wednesday and Thursday stepped up traffic patrol, known as "saturation" 107 citations were issued, with the majority, around 95 percent of those stopped, for speeding violations, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

On Friday afternoon and evening, police officers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, deputies from the Washoe, Lyon and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices, and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will conduct a DUI road block on Highway 50 in Douglas County near Lake Tahoe. Motorists passing through the checkpoint will be briefly greeted by one of the law enforcement officers.

On Saturday afternoon and evening, law enforcement personnel from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, UNR Police Services, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and Nevada Highway Patrol will be conducting the administrative road block.

Beefed up patrolling throughout Carson City on Sunday and Tuesday nights led to two arrests and 53 citations issued, reports Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

A DUI checkpoint Sunday night at Stewart and Spear streets led to one person being arrested for driving under the influence, 24 citations issued for traffic violations, and one vehicle towed, said McDaniel.

On Tuesday night a saturation patrol of William Street and Fairview Drive led to the arrest of one person on a warrant, 29 citations issued, and five vehicles towed.

Beginning Sunday through Tuesday Carson City Sheriff's Office is stepping up its street patrol and will be on the look out for drunk drivers. A DUI checkpoint will be established in the city limits on Sunday.

There will be a DUI checkpoint in Carson City on Friday, Aug. 9. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Nevada Highway Patrol, will hold the DUI compliance checkpoint on U.S. Highway 50 near Flint Drive.

In addition to focusing on impaired drivers, the checkpoint will also be looking for driver’s license and registration violations, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

The Carson City Sheriffs Office held a DUI compliance checkpoint at Fairview Drive and Desatoya Street on Sunday, July 14 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Of the 727 vehicles that went through the checkpoint, three were impounded, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel. Deputies issued 20 citations for various offenses, made one warrant arrest, one DUI arrest, and one arrest for driving with a revoked / suspended license.

A 31-year-old Reno woman faces a felony charge of grand larceny after Carson City deputies were able to look at surveillance video that showed her taking a 2005 Dodge truck on July 10 from the parking lot at Smith's.

For the holiday period stretch there will be heavy saturation patrols for DUI drivers, a DUI checkpoint, and enforcing underage drinking laws. The purpose of these activities is to ensure that drivers in Carson City are safe and sober going into and during the holiday weekend, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Darrin Sloan.

With Christmas and New Years Day each falling on a Tuesday this year, most families may be planning one or both holidays into a four-day event and traveling out of the area or staying near home and celebrating locally. Long holiday weekends generally means more motorists traveling on our state’s roadways thus increasing the calls for service for our agency. With the December holiday season upon us and the upcoming New Year just around the corner, numerous holiday parties and other work and family-related get-togethers will be celebrated and they often involve the consumption of alcohol. In an effort to identify those impaired drivers who may get behind the wheel after consuming too much alcohol, additional NHP Troopers, as well as a multi-agency DUI checkpoint, are being scheduled this month.

The Nevada Highway Patrol, along with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparks Police Department, and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office are planning a sobriety check point at Lake Tahoe for the Fourth of July holiday.
The check point will be held in Incline Village and is being funded by a Joining Forces grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
Due to the fireworks display and other special events planned at Lake Tahoe, a large increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic expected during the holiday, said NHP Sgt. Scott Farmer.

The Rand Avenue convenience store behind Tierra Plaza was robbed last night at approximately 8:30 p.m. No arrests have been made. The log indicates that the suspect may have injured himself during the robbery, as an officer reported discovering blood.
